The move to Angel's Hands new place of business at the corner of Highway 2 and 5 has happened and with the support of many people in the community who continue to donate items to our shop, we find that we are just the same as moving everyday. That's wonderful.
The volunteers have been kept very busy with sorting and hanging clothes and items so that many other folks have been able to come into the shop and find the much needed items that will aid them in their daily lives. We have been very busy assisting flood victims the past weeks and we do try to keep on hand things that are needed for fire victims.
We have a big supply of books to share, especially several Reader's Digest condensed novels, westerns and many other soft paperback books. There are two like new bread makers in the shop and other kitchen items. Come visit us if you could use any of these items. It seems we always have needs for mattress and springs, chairs and sofas, fans, large size clothes and western shirts.
We are keeping furniture and larger items at a separate storage area. We keep a "wish list" hoping that we can arrange a plan of delivery at the same time larger items are brought into the shop.
We are in the process of setting up a new volunteer schedule and would appreciate hearing from you if you would like to join us. If interested, fill out the volunteer form at Angel's Hands. There will be an orientation session for new volunteers.
Reaching All People Together is also in need of drivers for their transportation program. This would involve someone who has an automobile and safe driving record that could drive to Ottumwa, Des Moines or other near by health care facilities for people that have no other source of finding rides for their appointments. RAPT has a reimbursement plan for gas mileage. To register for this program, call Jean Montegna at (641) 856-3332.
Monthly safety programs for youth and families are also coordinated with Officer Jim Karp and held at Angel's Hands' facility. They include bike safety, stranger safety and community safety programs.
Angel's Hands is continuing to collaborate with Promise Jobs, Experience Works, Youth Works, Community and Probation Area Services. A special article about these programs will be presented at a later date.
We request that donations are not left on the outside of the building. Respect the volunteers that are doing this work. If things get wet, then we have to throw them out at our expense.
