BLOOMFIELD —
The Centerville Big Reds were swept by South Central Conference foe Davis County Tuesday night. The Davis County Mustangs, this year’s SCC Champions, beat the Big Reds 1-0 in the first game and 11-1 in game two.
The Mustangs scored one run in the first inning, but the Reds held them to just two hits. Calvin Mathews picked up the win for the Mustangs as Richard England picked up his third loss of the season from the mound.
England pitched five innings, tossing 11 strikeouts.
Jose Marin, Michael Firkins and England each went 1-3 from the plate, recording Centerville’s three hits on the day.
Davis County committed two errors in the game.
“Outstanding high school baseball game,” Centerville head coach Bill Huisman said. “Richard pitched a great game against Calvin Mathews. We had runners on every inning but the fifth. We had some chances.”
Davis County started off with an early 3-0 lead in the first inning of game two. Centerville would score one run in the second, but Davis County would put together a one-run third and seven run fourth, eventually taking the 11-1 win in five innings.
Michael Starcevich pitched 3.2 innings and picked up his second loss of the season, allowing six hits and six runs. Levi Sebolt and Tony Armington made brief appearances at the end of the game. Sebolt did not make an out in his appearance, allowing four hits and two runs. Armington pitched the final out of the game uneventfully.
Centerville (19-13, 11-7 in SCC) hosted Eddyville-Blakesburg Thursday night. The Big Reds host Ft. Madison Thursday night.
