Top-ranked Mustangs clinch SCC title

BLOOMFIELD — The number one ranked Davis County Mustangs have clinched the South Central Conference baseball title, after sweeping the Clarke Indians Thursday night.

Mustangs’ Calvin Mathews struck out 14 batters on the way to a perfect game, leading Davis County to a 5-0 win.

Davis County would go on to win game two against Clarke. Josh Martsching and Wyatt Garmon worked together from the mound for the 7-0 shutout win.

Davis County also beat Cardinal on Friday night to improve their record to a best-in-the-state 35-1 overall. The Mustang’s only loss so far this season came in the Centerville Big Red Tournament earlier in June to Des Moines East.
