Centerville wrestlers all place in top eight at Southern Iowa Classic

The Centerville Big Red wrestling team put on a good showing on Saturday at the Southern Iowa Classic in Fairfield.

“We wrestled well this weekend,” said Coach Matt Johnson. “All 11 of the wrestlers we brought placed in the top eight. The meet positioned us well going in to sectionals. We came away with no injuries and won most of our head to head match ups with sectional opponents.”

Mikey England (171) finished in first place with a 15-4 win in the championship round against Jake Crosby of Eddyville/Blakseburg.

Ethan Moorman (160) also placed first, with a 17-1 finisher versus Randy Armstrong, also of Eddyville/Blakesburg.

Both Tanner Cowan and Kyler Risher finished second in their classes and Blake McPherren finished third.

Also finishing in the top eight that day were Garrett Owens, Erik Repasz, Tyler Walker, Richard England, Garrett Brown and Tyler Burge.

“Now everything comes down to Saturday at Albia,” said Coach Johnson. “We will have a full line up and we are as healthy as we have been all year. Our goal is to win sectionals, but in order to accomplish that we need to be at the top of our game.”
