BUSSEY —
It certainly wasn’t easy, but the Moulton-Udell girls basketball team battled to the end to wrap up a perfect run to the regular season Bluegrass Conference title.
Facing the only conference team to beat them at all this year, M-U made sure that Twin Cedars would not add a co-regular season title to the Bluegrass Tournament crown the Sabes already had. The Eagles edged the Sabers 51-47 in Bussey to avenge an overtime loss in the conference tourney finals earlier this season.
“We wanted to make sure we came in loose and relaxed,” M-U head girls coach Jason Ogden said. “We already had at least a share of the crown, so we had nothing to lose. A lot of kids stepped up. I’m proud of them.”
Kadarenna Sales led the way to the first outright conference title in M-U history with 16 points, four assists and five steals. Natalie Potter added 14 points for the Eagles, who took a 14-3 overall record into Eddyville Saturday. Twin Cedars (15-4, 6-2) got a game-high 22 points from Allie Hugen while Ayla Crosby added 11. The Sabes wrap up the regular season at Melcher-Dallas tonight before both teams open Class 1A postseason play Thursday night.
