Due to poor ice conditions last weekend, the Appanoose County Conservation Board has moved its annual Youth Ice Fishing Derby to a new date! The Derby will take place on Saturday, Jan. 30 at Sharon Bluffs State Park from 2-4 p.m. Participants will need to be at Center 2000 by 2 p.m. to sign up and pick up any needed fishing equipment. Participants will be fishing at a nearby pond. Prizes will be awarded to the biggest fish, smallest fish and most fish caught that day. Anyone that catches their very first fish while ice fishing will receive a special certificate. This will be fun for the whole family.
Bring your family back out the following day from 2-4 p.m. for more ice fishing. No prizes will be given out, but there will be another fishing opportunity for everyone.
If your family would like to borrow ice fishing equipment for either event on this weekend, call Laura DeCook at (641) 895-1775. ACCB will provide bait. The events can be postponed due to poor ice conditions or weather. You may call DeCook for updates.
