Eagles soar past Lamoni in finals

By Julie Clark - Sports editor

An earlier loss to Lamoni was avenged on Saturday night in the Bluegrass Conference finals as the Moulton-Udell Eagles cranked it up and ended on top with a 60-48 victory over the Demons.

“Our players really competed at a high level in this contest,” said Coach Brent Martsching.

This win gave the Eagles their third consecutive conference tournament championship.

They fought their way from the No. 3 seed beating Murray and Lamoni to successfully defend the title.

“We did a great job on the glass with a team total of 48 rebounds, despite being a collective 14 inches undersized in the front court,” said Martsching.

Colton Probasco had 16 rebounds to lead the team in a trio of double digits in the area. This was also a career high for Probasco.

Also having big nights on defense were Chase Kirby with 11 and Dyllan Lawson with 10.

Lawson and Cody Korthaus led the team on offense with 18 points each followed by Kaleb Brinegar with 10 points.

Also scoring were Kirby with seven, Probasco with five and Kale Martsching with two.

Martsching had four steals to lead the team while Probasco had two blocked shots and Korthaus ended the night with four assists.

The Eagles will be at home tonight against Centerville for a varsity double header.
