CHS boys top Ft. Madison

The Centerville Big Reds captured a victory over Ft. Madison on Monday night with a final score of 87-78.

Brendyn Hawkins and Conner Kirkpatrick led the team offensively with 36 and 28 points respectively and also led the defense with 12 and eight rebounds respectively.

“We did a nice job of attacking Ft. Madison’s uptempo defense. We attacked with our guards and Conner and Brendyn finished strong. If we start making free throws, good things can happen for us,” said coach Matt Kruzich.

Also scoring for the Big Reds were Jordan McCoy with eight, Thaler Carter with six, Tyler Gray with four, Tanner Susin with three and Zach Cowan had two points.

Gray had six steals to led the team.

The Big Reds will be in action on Friday, Dec. 12 at Bloomfield to take on the Davis County Mustangs.

So, the question this week is, “Will it stay or will it go?” The United States Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. wants to close three Farm Service Agency offices in southern Iowa, which includes the FSA office in Centerville, and consolidate the operations in order to save money. Tuesday afternoon a meeting was held at Faith United Methodist Church to allow farmers and other producers who use the Centerville FSA office to make comments about the closing to John R. Whitaker, state executive director Iowa FSA. Many questioned if the meeting Tuesday was necessary because the decision had already been made.

A. Yes, because Washington will listen.
B. No, because the decision to close the Appanoose County FSA office has already been made.
