Reds chalk up wins

The Centerville Big Reds have been successful on the field lately with conference wins over Eddyville/Blakesburg and Clarke and a non-conference win over Oskaloosa on Tuesday.

On June 25 the boys defeated the E-B Rockets 7-4 and 15-5.

In the first game Jay Schmidt was the winning pitcher with six strikeouts in 5.2. innings. Richard England was on the mound briefly for Centerville.

Jordan McCoy was two-for-three with a triple and two RBIs while Tyler Gray and Thaler Carter each had doubles. Also getting hits were John Allgood, Zach Armington, Seth Thomas (2) and A.J. Hoffman.

In game two of the double header the Reds were led by Michael Kauzlarich on the mound with nine strike outs. “Jay and Michael both gave us solid pitching performance,” said Coach Bill Huisman.

McCoy, Carter and Cody Cowan each hit doubles while Kauzlarich, Schmidt, Gray, Armington and Hoffman had singles. McCoy went four-for-four at the plate with five RBIs.

“Defensively both teams got a little sloppy in the second game. We hit very well, McCoy had a special night going six-for-seven with seven RBIs, including a double and a triple,” said Huisman.

On Monday the team defeated Clarke 10-0 and 13-1.

In game one Kauzlarich had seven strikeouts and allowed only two hits.

Carter was two-for-three with a double while Gray, Armington, Trent McFarland, Thomas and Tyler Burge each had singles.

In game two Schmidt was the pitcher with seven strikeouts.

Hoffman and Kyle Maldonado each had doubles while Kauzlarich, Gray and McFarland had singles.

On Tuesday the team hosted Oskaloosa winning 11-1 with Maldonado on the mound.

Maldonado had three strikeouts and allowed six hits. “Kyle continues to pitch very well raising his record to 4-0,” said Huisman.

Hoffman had a good night at bat going three-for-three with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs.

“I was really pleased with our bunting game tonight, bunting becomes so important as we get closer to tournament time,” said Huisman.

Poll

This week the Iowegian wants readers to think about the recent decision by the Centerville Municipal Waterworks Board of Directors to increase the fee for late payment of water bills. In a story published in Wednesday's Ad Express, board members announced a 10 percent late fee after two days late, a $50 red tag fee for accounts unpaid after seven days late and a $25 shut off fee, water service terminated after two weeks late. The board said the decision to increase the fees associated with late payment is to encourage customers to pay their bills on time. So, the question this week is, "Are these fees too much to ask for?"

A. Yes, they are.
B. No, they are not.
C. I'm not affected so I don't care.
