Lenox downs Seymour 69-6

The top-ranked Lenox Tigers proved to be as good as advertised and then some, as they closed out the Warriors season with a convincing victory in Lenox Friday night.

The reigning State Champions used their size and speed to build a 48-0 halftime advantage, on their way to clinching the eight-player district No. 6 title for the fourth consecutive year.

For the Warriors, Jalen Jones, filling in at quarterback, sparked an offensive drive, late in the second period with a 31-yard option run. After scrambling for another 12 yards on a sweep play, Jones connected with Travis Young for 20 yards to give the Warriors first and goal at the two yard line. The Tigers would make a goal line stand to keep Seymour off the scoreboard going into intermission.

The Warriors would get another chance late in the contest, taking over on the Lenox four-yard line after a bad punt snap from center. Travis Young took it in from there to give the visitors their only points of the night.

On offense, Jones and Banks combined for five completions and 31 yards through the air, while Jones provided the ground game with 20 yards in 13 carries. Travis Young hauled in three passes for 38 yards in the contest.

Defensively, Jones left it all on the field in his final game, making 20 tackles against a very physical offensive football team. Tuff Christianson also played inspired defense with 12 stops of his own. Young, Tim Horman and Trevor Sherrard each had five or more tackles in the effort.

This was the last game of a long campaign for Seymour. Five seniors walked off the gridiron for the final time Friday night. Despite the record, they will someday look back on this season as some of the best times of their lives, just as their coach will whenever he thinks of them.
