The Centerville Redettes freshmen basketball team was defeated by Oskaloosa in their season opener with a score of 47-24.
“I thought the girls played well in the early going of the game. We took our time and let the offense come to us. When we started to rush we weren’t as successful offensively,” said Coach Chuck Banks.
Breanna Boyle and Makenzie Richmond led the team with five points each followed by Mallory Craver and Lindsey Winkel with four points each.
Also scoring in the game were Jessica Demry, Shelby Royer and Chelsey Bankson each scoring two points.
Defensively the team was led by Richmond, Lauren Craver and Demry with five rebounds each while Royer, Boyle and M. Craver each had four rebounds.
Richmond also dominated in blocks with eight while L. Craver, M.Craver and Boyle each had five blocks.
Demry had three assists and Winkel had two blocks to lead the team.
The Redettes next game of the season was against Clarke. They were defeated 28-12 with five points coming from Royer to lead the team while Demry added four points and Makenna Pershy had two points. Also scoring was Bankson with one point.
Boyle and L. Craver led the team in rebounds with three each and M. Craver had three blocks.
On Friday the girls traveled to Davis County and got their first win of the season with a score of 37-26.
Pershy led the offense with 10 points followed by eight from Demry and seven from Richmond.
Also scoring were L. Craver with five, M. Craver with four, Winkel added two and Royer had one point in the effort.
Pershy also led the defense grabbing 10 rebounds, followed by Richmond with nine and L. Craver with four. Demry had four asssits and four steals while Boyle had five steals.
The freshmen played in Seymour on Monday night. Watch for stats from that game later this week.
The Redettes (1-2 overall) will be at home against Eddyville-Blakesburg on Thursday.
