MORAVIA —
The Moravia Lady Mohawks saw their season come to a close Friday night at home, as they lost 5-3 in the Class 1-A Region 6 semifinal game against Twin Cedars.
Twin Cedars took an early 2-0 lead after one inning of play. However, Moravia’s Brooklyn Benjamin, Cheyenne Rowley and Sam Williams came around to score in the bottom of the second, as the Lady Mohawks took a 3-2 lead.
Twin Cedars, though, would battle back with a run in the third to tie the game at 3-3. Twin Cedars scored one run in the fourth inning and one more in the seventh, as they smashed 10 hits for the 5-3 win.
Annie Moore picked up just her seventh loss of the season, allowing five runs on 10 hits with 10 strikeouts.
On Thursday, Moravia’s Moore struck out 16 batters as the Moravia Lady Mohawks held the Moulton-Udell Lady Eagles to one hit in Thursday’s Region 6 quarterfinal game.
Moravia took an early 1-0 lead out of the first inning. They would extend their lead to 3-0 in the fifth. Moulton scored their first and only run of the game in the bottom of the seventh, but suffered the 3-1 loss.
Moravia recorded five hits in the effort. Katelynn Tracy led the offense, going 2-3 with an RBI. Cheyenne Rowley also had an RBI after going 1-3.
“[M-U head coach] Jason [Ogden] always has that team ready to play. They’re always going to give us a hard game,” Moravia head coach Jared Power said. “Annie cam eup big for us at the end with those strikeouts, and [catcher] Abby Wilson made a couple of big plays behind the plate to save a run on a couple of those wild pitches.”
Madison Probasco pitched seven innings for Moulton, allowing five hits and throwing two strikeouts.
Moulton ends their season with a 15-15 record. Probasco and Kadarenna Sales are the two seniors that saw their Lady Eagles careers end Thursday.
Moravia (19-10) says goodbye to two seniors as Moore and Rowley ended their high school playing days in Moravia.
