Redettes run past Chargers

CENTERVILLE — Even with leading scorer Olivia Starcevich battling the flu, the Centerville girls basketball team was able to leaving visiting Chariton with an ill feeling most of the night. The Redettes got a balanced effort led by a dominant double-double from Mallory Oden in a 51-36 South Central Conference win over the Chargers on Friday.

On Saturday, Centerville took a 62-29 loss to Kirksville, Mo.

Friday night, Oden scored a game-high 15 points and pulled in 13 rebounds as Centerville built a 30-10 halftime lead. Presley Swan led Chariton with 13 points while Emma Fuhs poured in 10 for the Chargers.

“Mallory had a really nice night for us as did Makenna Pershy,” Redettes head coach Nic Belloma said. “Everyone did a lot of good things, people came in off the bench and it gave us a good night of basketball.”

Centerville (14-6) travels to Albia on Tuesday.
